One Month Out!

Welcome to the 2011 KKB Blogsite! Mr. Fischer and Mr. Thomas are thrilled about Malaysia Week- are you?

Malaysia Week is a lot of things to a lot of different people. For some of you, this will be the first (and maybe only) time you will camp. For others, this will be a fun week with friends. Regardless of what it means to you, this is still a school trip (cue boo sounds)- and we have work to do!

One of our biggest challenges in Malaysia week is finding a way to share our excitement and accomplishments with our friends and family. To help facilitate that, you will be managing and keeping a MW blog over the next month and half, answering various questions and providing feedback and reflection. Your first blog entry will have three parts- keep reading, they're below!

1. Introduce yourself- who are you, where are you from. Remember to use first names only. Next, tell us how many Malaysia week's you've been on (if any), and what you are most excited about for this year's trip. (Have a look at the itinerary!). Lastly, tell us what you're most nervous or anxious about- don't worry, we're scared of some things too!

2. We get to enjoy Malaysia week because of the environment of Malaysia. It's fun to white water raft or abseil down a river, to climb a tree or hike through the forest- but what if those things weren't there? It's a very real possibility that the environment that we will be enjoying in a month may not be there for our children or grandchildren to enjoy. What can we do about it?

ISKL's theme this year is "Smells Like Green Spirit," a take on the popular 1991 Nirvana song. Our hope is that the spirit of environmental responsibility would be evident in everything we do on Malaysia. We've already established two challenges for us to help take care of our environment- but we need a third. Just to remind you, our group commitments so far are...

- To bring our own dishes/utensils with us to minimize waste and plastic usage
- To use only chemical free/organic soaps and shampoos to protect the ecosystem.

We need one more- and it's up to you. What do you think should be our goal or challenge?

3. Every Malaysia Week Group is responsible for putting together a presentation of their adventures. What do you think we should do? An iMovie? A skit? You decide it's your presentation! Tell us your idea (and don't just put- iMovie- what should it be about? What is our focus? What is our message?)

Counting down the days,

Your Site Leaders
